Patient Services

State of the Art Oncology and Hematology Services

Our team of physicians at TCC offer state of the art services in both medical oncology and hematology to patients age 18 to well over 100 years of age.

Over the last 20 years, there have been dramatic changes in the way patients are treated. For example, more information and research have given us new medicines to block or control some of the side effects of chemotherapy treatments.

We also work closely with a group of Radiation Oncologists from Center for Cancer Care for those patients who require radiation for their cancer diagnosis. Click here to read about their services.

Out-patient Chemotherapy Administration

Chemotherapy is an aggressive form of chemical drug therapy meant to destroy rapidly growing cells in the body. It is usually used for cancer, as cancer cells grow and divide faster than other cells.

Chemotherapy is often used in combination with other therapies, such as surgery, radiation, or hormone therapy. However, this depends on the stage and type of cancer, your overall health, previous cancer treatments, location of cancer cells, and your personal treatment preferences.

At TCC, we provide your treatment and follow up care after treatment ends. We work closely with your general practitioner and other physicians involved in your care.

Gamma Globulin Infusions for Immunocompromised Patients

Hypogammaglobulinemia is a type of primary immune deficiency disease characterized by a reduction in all types of gamma globulins.

Our physicians treat patients who have this with gamma globulin infusions (IVIG) to help prevent infections. IVIG treatments are infusions of a highly purified, carefully screened blood product that comes from the plasma of 10,000 to 50,000 donors.

Lab Services

Our in-house lab provides us the opportunity to get your lab results quickly before you see the physician for your appointment. We are continuing to add lab services to expedite your treatment wait time. We staff a team of medical lab technicians (MLT) and a consulting medical technician (MT) and we are accredited by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA).

For lab services that we can’t yet perform in our in-house lab we use the services of Huntsville Hospital’s lab. We can conveniently and quickly send lab specimens through a tube station straight to HH where they perform the lab tests, entering the results into an electronic medical record that interfaces with our electronic medical record, allowing us to access the results as quickly as possible.

Referral Services for Lymphedema Management and Cancer Rehabilitation

Lymphedema is the swelling of one, sometimes both, of your arms or legs. We refer patients with lymphedema to physical therapy programs that offer specialized lymphedema care.

We also refer patients to wellness programs developed for cancer survivers.

In Patient Services at Huntsville Hospital (HH) and Healthsouth Rehabilitation Hospital of North Alabama

The physicians at TCC admit patients to HH and Healthsouth Rehabilitation of North Alabama. When you are a patient in either of these facilities you will be seen by one of our physicians if you were admitted under their care, or if they were consulted for an oncology or hematology problem by your physician while you are in the hospital.

Transfusion and Plasmapheresis Services

Our physicians treat patients who are in need of blood transfusions and plasmapheresis services. Once we determine that you are in need of one of these services you will be scheduled at HH’s outpatient medical facility on the HH campus.
